In museums, like in o he p oduc ion houses such as labo a o ies, daily p ac ices

. The museum has a long his o y o main aining au ho i y by manu ac-
u ing ce ain y, p esen ing i sel as well-s uc u ed, employing a ional me hods
while concealing he messie , mo e con es ed pa o behind he scenes p ac ices. In
his ligh , he museum can be cha ac e ised as being wo- aced: a con iden ace ha
is di ec ed ou wa ds, and a less con iden ace ha is di ec ed inwa ds. The la e ace
domina es he p ocess ha e ol es p io o each display bu is ha dly made isible

expe knowledge o a lay-audience? Pe haps one o he mos impo an challenges
o making conse a ion accessible o a la ge audience lies in a meaning ul b idging
o backs age and on s age.
