Conce ning mic owa e e lec ome y, CFN began he de elopmen o an he e odyne Q-band ixed equency channel using syn hesize sou ces, o s udy adial co ela ion pa ame e s o plasma u bulence. Pa icipa ion in he MAST P og amme This P ojec aims he de elopmen and scien i ic exploi a ion o a mic owa e e lec ome e o MAST9. The ollowing main ac i i ies we e ca ied ou in 2002: § Finaliza ion o he assembly, implemen a ion and es ing o he diagnos ic; § Imp o emen s in he de ec ion ampli ie s in o de o educe he noise; § Assessmen o he e lec ome y diagnos ic pe o mance. All channels ha e been es ed wi h a me allic mi o placed inside he machine; § Realiza ion o he i s plasma measu emen s. The expe imen al esul s showed clea inges due o he MAST plasma in he Ka band channel bu e eal he loss o e lec ed signal in he K band and pa o he U band channels. This si ua ion was iden i ied as being mos likely due o p oblems in he ins alla ion o he diagnos ic in he machine, which can only be co ec ed in he nex acuum b eak. 2.7. Pa icipa ion in he TCV P og amme The main objec i es o his P ojec a e he de elopmen and scien i ic exploi a ion o h ee X- ay diagnos ics (a ho izon al Pulse Heigh Ampli ude (PHA) spec ome e , a e ical PHA spec ome e and a o a ing c ys al spec ome e ) and he de elopmen o an ad anced plasma con ol sys em o TCV10. The ho izon al PHA spec ome e , in ope a ion since 2001, was designed in a hyb id analogue- digi al con igu a ion, based on a Ge manium-cooled de ec o , a spec oscopy ampli ie , an on-si e de eloped IATG (In e ace Ampli ie Timing Gene a o ) and a CAMAC ansien eco de module. The ollowing main asks we e pe o med in 2002: § Rou ine ope a ion o he diagnos ic o he measu emen o he elec on empe a u e and analysis o he line adia ion in he so X- ay ange om 1 o 10 keV; § Elabo a ion o Use s Re e ence Guides. The new spec ome e is based on a Roen ec X lash Silicon D i ed De ec o and a 9 MAST is a Mega Ampe e Sphe ical Tokamak o he Associa ion EURATOM/UKAEA, in ope a ion in Culham. 10 TCV is a “Tokamak de Con igu a ion Va iable” o he Associa ion EURATOM/Con ede a ion Suisse, in ope a ion in Lausanne. 8 DSP sys em, based on ei he a comme cial CAMAC uni o a CFN VME module. The discha ges a e gene a ed by azimu hally symme ic (TM mode) su ace wa es ope a ing a mic owa e equencies ω/2π = 500 MHz and ω/2π = 2.45 GHz. By means o op ical emission spec oscopy, lase pho ode achmen , and adiophysics me hods, he ele an ac i e species concen a ions, such as N(4S), H(1s), H −, and ),d(H),,B(N),,C(N3 2 2 2 3 2 uuu −++ ΠΣΠ, and some discha ge pa ame e s as he gas empe a u e and elec ic ield, ha e been measu ed. Emission spec oscopy me hods ha e been de eloped and applied o de e mine he deg ee o molecula dissocia ion in H2, N2, N2-A and N2-H2 discha ges. Mic owa e H2 discha ges ha e also been in es iga ed as sou ces o nega i e H− ions. A signi ican amoun o nega i e ions has been expe imen ally de ec ed con a y o he negligible p esence o H− ions usually ound in mic owa e hyd ogen discha ges. The heo e ical models de eloped couple sel -consis en ly he discha ge kine ics (elec on and hea y pa icles kine ics), he gas he mal balance, he wa e elec odynamics and impo an aspec s o plasma-wall in e ac ions.
