Impacto do debriefing estruturado

INTRODUCTION In the last two decades, several studies have emphasized that hospitalised patients are harmed as a result of errors and incidents occurring during their care (Campos et al., 2010). Challenges in treatment of patients are often not due to a lack of clinical expertise (Dieckmann, 2010), but to non-technical-skills failure, such as inneffective teamwork and communication (Cooper et al., 2010), an incomplete understanding of the situation, misinterpretations and the incomplete use of the expertise that is available in the treatment team (Dieckmann, 2010). The development of these skills has become recognized as a set of learned behaviors and attitudes that should be included in formal education programs (Gururaja et al., 2008). OBJECTIVES AND PROCEDURE Develop, implement and evaluate the effectiveness of a high-fidelity simulation-based educational and training program focusing on non-technical skills among nursing students, and analyse its impact on students’ knowledge, clinical performance and confidence in comparison with other two groups. Examine differences pre- (before the implementation of the program = phase 0), post-training (after the implementation of the program = phase 1) and after-traineeship (students will have a three month’s traineeship from April to June = phase 3). Study is taking place at SIMULA. A convenience sample of 75 nursing students from ESSUA will be recruited. Sample will be distributed in three groups, control group (as usual = CG, N=25), and two intervention groups (technical skills = IG1, N=25; technical and non-technical skills = IG2, N=25). CG will receive training as usual. IG1 and IG2 will receive training in highfidelity simulation environment. IG1 focusing only on technical skills; and IG2 focusing technical and non-technical skills. Students will be divided in three classes, divided in 8 modules of 3 hours each. Classes will occur weekly, separately but in the same schedule (the same day in the morning), except the IG2, that will have the non-technical module in the afternoon. Sessions consist of immersive high-fidelity, simulation-based scenarios that are followed by a focused and structured debriefing. Expected outcomes Promote knowledge and use of non-technical skills in healthcare. Increase confidence and self-efficacy among nursing students to improve performance, increase patient care and reduce errors in their future practice. Construction of a manual from the program. EFFECTIVENESS OF A HIGH-FIDELITY SIMULATION-BASED EDUCACIONAL AND TRAINING PROGRAM FOCUSING NON-TECHNICAL SKILLS FOR NURSING STUDENTS 1.
