Two nomenclatural changes in Entosthodon

Funaria convexa Spruce and F. pulchella Philib. are two species that Crundwell & Nyholm (1974) related to F. muhlenbergii Turn. According to Fife (1985, 1996), the genus Funaria is restricted to species with capsules inclined, asymmetric and sulcate when dry, double peristome with strongly sigmoid teeth, which are fused at apices, and a compound and revoluble annulus; species with inclined and asymmetric but not sulcate capsules when dry, more or less sigmoid teeth not fused, and simple, non-revoluble annulus, like E. muhlenbergii (Tur.) Fife, belong to Entosthodon subg. Plagiodus. Consequently, the following new combinations are necessary. Enthostodon convexus (Spruce) BruguŽs, comb. nov. Basionym: Funaria convexa Spruce, Musc.
